Kevin Chatwin, MD., provides medical acupuncture in the Sports and Orthopedic Care Clinic at Fairview Lakes Medical Center, 5200 Fairview Blvd., Wyoming, where he sees patients with acute and chronic pain concerns.
“My intention is to see patients primarily with acute and chronic pain concerns,” said Dr. Chatwin, “But all of the traditional applications of acupuncture can be considered.” He adds that traditional medical practice and acupuncture medicine can work in a very complementary fashion and “together can often produce better results than either functioning independently.”
A Canadian trained physician, Dr. Chatwin completed family medicine residency at the University of Manitoba and is board-certified in family medicine in both the United States and Canada. He has practiced in the United States since 1996 and has been an emergency department physician at Fairview Lakes Medical Center since 1999.
Dr. Chatwin obtained his training in acupuncture through an intensive Stanford/UCLA-sponsored course at the Helms Medical Institute. The Helms program is available to medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy. Programs in San Francisco and Harvard have been modeled after it. The focus of the program is to provide physicians with training in acupuncture and all of its potential applications.
Types of problems that may benefit from acupuncture include, but are not limited to:
- Acute and chronic neck and low back pin
- Joint pains due to trauma
- Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
- Myfascial pain problems
- Trigger points
- Fibromyalgia
- After an appropriate work up, chronic abdominal/pelvic pain may also be improved by acupuncture.
