Temporomandibular joint (TMJ)

Problems with the temporomandibular joint are slightly more common in women than men. Noises in the jaw joint are very common in the general population. Like any joint in the body, it can become strained or injured, and it can be treated for problems that arise. It responds well to physical therapy intervention. Injury may arise from trauma, oral habits, poor posture or having dental procedures done.

Your doctor or dentist may prescribe physical therapy which can help to decrease your pain, improve function of your jaw and teach you self -management techniques through exercises and education.
